You may wish to use copyrighted material beyond what is allowed by fair use or public domain status, and will need to contact the publisher or copyright holder for permission. Examples could include public performance rights to a DVD not licensed for this purpose, reformatting material, or distributing multiple copies of a journal article or book chapter. NICC library staff is unable to assist with this process. Faculty and staff must identify, correspond and obtain permission themselves. Permissions should be in writing and from the copyright holder. Maintain copies of all correspondence.
Some instructions and sample correspondence are provided at the Purdue University Copyright Office "Permissions" webpage useful as you work through this process.
